Editorial policy

In order to guarantee the widest possible accessibility, the BAB is freely available from the website http://www.belgianactuarialbulletin.be. As IA|BE decided to deliver the BAB in electronic format, it is essential that authors prepare their manuscripts according to established specifications. Therefore, contributors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscript for compliance with the instructions listed in the guide for authors before submitting it for publication.

A paper submitted to the BAB is first screened by one of the editors for suitability. If it is deemed suitable, copies are sent to one or several independent referees. The identities of referees are never revealed to the author(s).

The paper is reviewed for content, originality and clarity of exposition. On the basis of the referee reports, the editor makes one of the following decisions: (1) accept, possibly subject to minor revision, (2) accept subject to major revision or (3) reject.

The editor communicates the decision to the author(s) along with copies of the referee's report. The decision of the editors is final. The entire process is expected to take three months. However, it is sometimes difficult to find appropriate referees and, although referees are asked to make their comments within two months, it is not always possible for them to do so. When a revised version of the paper is received by the editor, copies of this will be sent to the referees and the process is repeated. After acceptance the authors see one set of proofs for checking.

Authors should not rely on the referees to check the accuracy of any numerical calculations whose results are shown in the paper. If, however, the referees find any errors in such calculations, it may be expected that the paper will be rejected. Notwithstanding any alterations made on the recommendations of referees or the editor, authors remain solely responsible for the accuracy of the contents of their papers.

All correspondence with regard to editorial policy and the publication of papers should be addressed to the managing editor.
